Graduate Profile

    Anton Wiranata

Anton Wiranata obtained his bachelor degree in physics from the University of Indonesia in 2005. During his undergraduate study, Anton developed a special interest in nuclear physics. Anton came to the Department of Physics & Astronomy at Ohio University in the fall of 2005. Currently, he is working on Relativistic Heavy-Ion Collisions under the supervision of Prof. Madappa Prakash. Anton's research work involves calculating transport coefficients, such as diffusion, bulk and shear viscosities, of interacting hadrons. His goal is to provide an understanding of the non-equilibrium properties of the matter produced in collisions of high energy heavy-ion beams at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory, NY, and the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN, Switzerland.

When not doing physics, Anton enjoys playing badminton and soccer. His laurels include: (i) first place in the intramural badminton competitions held by Ohio University in 2007 and 2008, and (ii) second place in indoor soccer. Anton really enjoys the fall season in Athens, which he thinks is very beautiful. He uses his free time to make new friends and to learn about new cultures in the large international community in Athens.

Anton is waiting for Prakash to turn up at a badminton court so he can beat him badly, and for Prakash to teach him golf.
