Graduate Profile
Chieh Jen Yang
- Chieh Jen (Jerry) Yang has been a graduate student at Ohio University since 2005.
Jerry is interested in theoretical nuclear and particle physics. Mentored by Prof. Daniel Phillips, Jerry is currently using chiral effective field theory in the nucleon-nucleon sector to study electro-disintegration of the deuteron.
- Jerry completed his undergraduate studies in Atmospheric Science with a minor degree in Physics from the National Taiwan University in 2000. He did his military service (2000-2002) as a second lieutenant in the Army Aviation Center, Taiwan. Jerry came to the US in 2002; he did research in theoretical atomic physics (atomic photo-ionization) and obtained his Master's degree in Physics from Georgia State University in 2005. His Master's thesis is available at

- Besides physics, Jerry is interested in philosophy, mathematics, and classical music. He plays table tennis and baseball, and likes hiking a lot. According to him, the most beautiful sight in Athens, OH, is the Dow lake in the fall. The best thing that has happened to him in Athens is having wonderful classmates (and professors, too).
