CAPA
Our Experiences
Some Perceived Positive Effects of CAPA
- Statistics on student success/failure in answering each HW problem is
available to the instructor throughout the week. The instructor can see
right away what material is giving the class the most trouble.
- No HW grading by Instructor or TA's, so more time can be spent in direct
interaction with students. About 10 hours per week of "CAPA" help sessions
for each course are staffed by TA's.
- System naturally encourages students to discuss problem-solving techniques with other students in the class.
- In all surveys taken, students express great enthusiasm for CAPA.
- Students certainly work more HW problems successfully now than they did before CAPA, but still it remains difficult to prove that they are learning more effectively.
How can CAPA be improved in the Future?
- Move to a Graphical User Interface that is easy to use, universally accessible, and inexpensive from both the instructor and student point of view.
